Clever Girl

My daughter LOVES dinosaurs. She would read her Dino Dana field guide every night and told me all about them. It made me remember my own fascination with dinosaurs, particularly the velociraptor. While I’m told (by my daughter) that the velociraptor probably didn’t look like the one from Jurassic Park, that is the dino I grew up loving. One day my mind started to wonder and I got an idea for an illustration based on Jurassic Park themes that could also honor my own “Clever Girl”

Taking the inspiration of my daughter and that one line from the film, I started sketching out my idea. Most of the layout would play on the established logo/design from the franchise, but I still wanted to figure out how to draw the raptor. I gathered some images from the film as reference and worked out a plan.

I worked in Procreate to create the illustration. I was trying to improve my proficiency with the app and also liked the idea of being able to work on the go as I had time and not be stuck at my desk. I knew that I ultimately wanted to make different printable items, so I worked large in order to reduce any pixelation when scaling.

The illustration and design turned out great and I was able to get a shirt printed for my daughter to wear. Then I created stickers and some print-on-demand mugs. If your interested in checking out the products they are available on my Etsy store. This project was so much fun to work on and I really enjoyed how the stickers and mugs turned out. It has made me want to try making more sticker designs in the future.
